A Bokeh Dream
Since I began experimenting with silhouettes and creating artistic images, I’ve always enjoyed trying something different. About three months ago, a friend told me about the swirly bokeh effect he got from a Helios. After seeing the results, I was intrigued and thought about getting one for myself. Around the same time, I came across an Instagram post about a donut bokeh lens. The sample images they shared were stunning, and I had a few ideas for incorporating it into bird and wildlife photography. Since it was a 250mm lens, it seemed perfect for capturing birds and mammals.

When the lens was released in India, I pre-ordered it on the first day and received it within two days. I took it out for a birding trial as soon as I got it, and I was blown away by the bokeh it produced. Over the next 45 days, I shot a variety of subjects with it and ended up with some truly unique images. I even created a portfolio for my donut bokeh series and approached TTArtisan to explore a potential collaboration. That’s when I noticed their Instagram post about the new 75mm swirly bokeh lens.
TTArtisan 75mm F1.5 Swirly Bokeh
The TTArtisan 75mm f/1.5 Swirl Bokeh lens is a gem for portrait and artistic photographers seeking a unique bokeh effect.

The lens is solidly constructed with a full-metal body that feels premium and durable in hand. The focus ring is smooth, offering precise control for manual focusing, and the aperture ring clicks satisfyingly into place. Compact yet sturdy, it’s a portable option for a variety of shooting scenarios. However, its weight might feel a bit hefty on lighter camera bodies.
Swirly bokeh had always been my first choice, but at the time, I hadn’t bought it because I was focusing on other gear I already owned. A week later, TTArtisan responded to my inquiry—they loved my donut bokeh images and offered to send me their new TT 75mm f/1.5 lens for testing.

Even if they hadn’t reached out, I was already planning to buy it. A week after their message, I received the lens, and tested it on some butterflies near my house. The results were amazing, and I knew immediately that this lens would allow me to explore my photography in more creative ways. The build quality is exceptional, and the sharpness exceeded my expectations.

Bokeh: The most striking feature of this lens is the swirly bokeh effect. For wildlife, especially when shooting small animals, birds, or creatures in intimate settings, this creates a dreamy, surreal background. It draws the viewer’s focus entirely to the subject, blurring out distractions in a creative, visually appealing way.
Sharpness: Despite its artistic focus, the lens delivers surprisingly sharp images at its center, which is critical for capturing fine details in fur, feathers, or eyes of wildlife subjects.
Low Light: With a wide aperture of f/1.5, it excels in low-light conditions. For early morning or late evening wildlife shoots, it captures images in soft light without sacrificing quality.
The TTArtisan 75mm f/1.5 is an artistic, niche lens that adds a whimsical, dreamy quality to wildlife photos. It’s not your typical wildlife lens, but if you’re looking for a creative twist, especially for close-up shots of animals in quiet settings, it can produce magical results.
However, it’s best suited for patient, deliberate shooting rather than fast-paced action shots. Wildlife photographers who enjoy experimenting with style and effects will love the bokeh it creates.
